Summary of Services:  An anonymous fellowship of relatives and friends of alcoholics who meet to share their experience, strength and hope in order to solve common problems.  Note: The VA Al-Anon Service Committee are not a formal organization with a structure in place to answer questions on an ongoing basis.  As such, please direct any inquiries to the World Services Office of Al-Anon.

Blue Ridge Area Foodbank

Summary of Services:  The Blue Ridge Area Foodbank works as a member of Feeding America to reduce hunger locally through a network of community organizations in Central and Western Virginia.  The Blue Ridge Area Foodbank has special programs to assist and feed school-age kids, homebound senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

Schedule:  Affiliates of the Blue Ridge Area Foodbank operate on a variety of different schedules.  For a better idea of when services are available in your area, please consult the listings at the end of this guide.

Cost:  There is no cost associated with services.  Some food banks may ask you to provide proof of income before participating in services, and some may limit amount of participation over the course of a month.  For more information on individual food pantries, please contact the provider directly.

Blue Ridge Area Narcotics Anonymous

Summary of Services:  Narcotics Anonymous exists as a resource for men and women for whom drugs have become a major problem.  Participants meet regularly to offer assistance to each other in a program of complete abstinence from all drugs.  The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop using drugs.

Healthy Families of the Blue Ridge

Summary of Services: Healthy Families of the Blue Ridge is a part of Healthy Families America.  It is a completely voluntary parent education program that teaches first-time parents about the development of their children, how to keep them healthy, and ways to prepare their children to do well in school.  Healthy Families accomplishes this goal with Family Support Workers who visit with parents in the home to provide education and support.  Anyone may apply for Healthy Families through their physician or midwife.

Habitat for Humanity (Harrisonburg Rockingham)

Cost:                               It does not cost anything to apply for assistance from Habitat for Humanity, but everyone selected for participation must repay a no-profit loan for their home, or home repairs.

Summary of Services:     A fellowship of men and women who share their experience and strength with the hope that they may solve their common problems and help others recover from alcoholism.  The primary goal of AA is staying sober and helping other alcoholics achieve sobriety.
